Photographer Falko Burghausen has received an extraordinary honor: three of his works were recognized at the 12th International Fine Art Photography Awards. The panorama of Ålesund in the evening light, the vastness of Jotunheimen with the Bitihorn, and the drone shot of the Grande Dixence dam impressed the international jury and prevailed against strong competition.
The award-winning images reflect Falko’s photographic signature: a knack for extraordinary perspectives, for the right light, and for subjects that bridge the gap between nature and human influence. Whether Norwegian fjord landscapes, Norwegian high mountains, or Swiss engineering—his works capture moments that linger in their stillness and precision.
The International Fine Art Photography Awards are among the most prestigious competitions of their kind worldwide. The award confirms what connoisseurs of his work have long known: Falko Burghausen does not simply photograph landscapes—he finds images within them.
The following works were honored:
City of Lights
This panoramic view shows the Norwegian coastal town of Ålesund shortly after sunset, captured from an elevated vantage point. The warm lights of the town are reflected in the calm waters of the fjord, while the silhouettes of the surrounding islands and mountains fade into the evening glow. A cruise ship lies in the harbor—a quiet counterpoint to the town’s intricate architecture.
This work won 3rd place in the “Panoramic (Professional)” category and is available as a high-quality wall art print in the online shop.
The Lonely Mountain
This photograph was taken at dawn over Jotunheimen National Park in Norway. The Bitihorn rises strikingly above the vast high plateau, dotted with lakes and patches of snow. A lonely mountain road winds through the plain, while the sky above glows in rich shades of orange and pink just before sunrise.
This work was nominated in the “Panoramic (Professional)” category and is available as a limited-edition wall art print in the online shop.
The Wall
This vertical drone shot offers a bird's-eye view of the Grande Dixence dam in the Swiss canton of Valais. The view focuses directly on the curved concrete wall, which stretches from the turquoise water surface to the base of the dam. Individual people are visible on the crest, bringing home the actual scale of the structure—at 285 meters, the world’s tallest gravity dam.
This work was nominated in the “Abstract (Professional)” category and is available as a limited-edition wall art print in the online shop.
