August 2025 – Mountain Worlds
If you want to get an idea of the enormous number of mountains in the Alps, take a look eastward from the 3,242-meter-high Zwischbergen Pass at sunrise, for example during a short stopover while crossing the Weissmies.

The unique location of the high, glaciated mountains between the 3,607 m high Senggchuppa above Fletschhorn and Lagginhorn to the Weissmies offers a unique panorama at sunrise. The number of peaks stretching eastward to the horizon seems almost infinite, while the rising sun slowly begins its journey into a new day.

The peaks mentioned above all reach the magical 4,000-meter mark and form a mighty bulwark of the Alps to the east. From this high vantage point, observers can gaze out towards the Italian Alps. Even the winding Lake Maggiore, for example, cannot be overlooked from the Zwischbergen Pass above Saas Almagell. The peaks appear like natural silhouettes in a row, seemingly stretching endlessly to the horizon, while the valleys create a hazy mist that really brings out the beauty of the mountain ranges.

A great way to enjoy this unique scenic spectacle is to cross the 4,014 m high Weissmies: during the ascent, we pass the 3,242 m high Zwischebergen Pass, where, if we time it right, we can take a short break and marvel at the rising sun before reaching the southeast ridge. However, we should not waste too much time, as the path up to the summit is still long and the glaciated descent on the north side should be tackled as early as possible.
